Remember a Charity in your Will Week

Would you remember a charity in your will?

Remember a Charity in your Will Week | Wheelers Solicitors Newport Isle of WightThis week is ‘Remember a Charity in your Will week’ and Wheelers Solicitors in Newport, Isle of Wight, are proud to once again support this initiative.

In 2017 people in Britain left £2.85 billion to charity in their Wills, which was the largest amount recorded to date. This figure is 39 times the amount raised on a ‘Red Nose Day’.

Health and Cancer charities received the largest shares of gifts in Wills with Cancer Research UK, Macmillan Cancer Support and the British Heart Foundation all making the top 5.

Other popular charities included the RSPCA and the RNLI.

At Wheelers Solicitors on the Isle of Wight many of our clients choose charities closer to home with the Earl Mountbatten Hospice, Age UK Isle of Wight and the Isle of Wight Donkey Sanctuary all featuring regularly, and not just in remember a charity in your will week.

Rob Cope, Director of consortium Remember A Charity, said:

“It’s incredibly encouraging to see the collective amount gifted to charities in Wills rise, as it genuinely has a huge impact.”

“For example, legacies in Wills fund six in 10 lifeboat launches and two in three guide dogs.”

However, currently just six percent of people leave a charitable gift in their Will.

Len Goodman, head judge on Dancing with the Stars, said:

“I am supporting this year’s Remember a Charity Week because I feel it’s important to leave behind a gift to a charity that you support in order to help them continue their good work once we are gone.”

“Over my lifetime I’ve seen first-hand the amazing work that charities do, and it would be a shame for them to stop just because we do.”
